The complex hierarchical structures are generated by custom software which models the cellular processes of division, multiplication, and differentiation. The unique appearance of each scene is derived from color palettes submitted by users around the world to the Adobe Kuler website.  Left to “grow” overnight, each unique color culture results in several diverging colonies, and the most successful ones are selected the next day.
